Lloyd R. Karr 1916-1999

Obituary- Lloyd Richard Karr, the son of Cora Jane Teter and Thomas Burton (Burt) Karr, was born on May 15, 1916 in Marion County, Iowa. He was one of five children. Lloyd attended Blaine country school in Marion County.

On June 29, 1941 Lloyd was united in marriage to Irma Mae Roff in Knoxville. To this union three daughters were born. Lloyd and Irma lived in Cordova while building a new home in the Des Moines River bottom. They lived in this home until the Des Moines River flooding forced them to move onto higher ground in August 1947.

Lloyd farmed in Marion County his entire life until retiring in 1990. Lloyd always enjoyed fishing and hunting. He and Irma spent many vacations fishing on Pakwash Lake in Ontario, Canada. Along with his brother, Harold and friend, Lee DeMoss, Lloyd played the fiddle for many dances in his earlier years. Lloyd was a founding member of Christ's Church in Knoxville, were he served as an elder and Sunday School teacher as well as on many committees. Lloyd helped organize the Farmers Cooperative in Knoxville and served as the board secretary for 17 years.

Lloyd passed away on Friday, January 22, 1999 at the Knoxville Area Community Hospital of cardiac arrest at the age of 82 years, eight months, and seven days. Preceding him in death were his parents, Burt and Cora Karr, and two brothers; Harold and Norman Karr.

Survivors include his wife of 57 and a half years, Irma, of Knoxville; three daughters; Mrs. Gary (Carol) Kingery of Knoxville; Mrs Dwayne (Donna) Betterton of Knoxville; Mrs. Richard (Shirley) Kingery of Pleasantville; two sisters; Mrs Merl (Cecil) Price and Mrs. Charles (Roberta) Hodgson of Knoxville; 11 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. as well as many other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held Monday, January 25, 1999 at Williams Funeral Home in Knoxville with Pastor Tim Stanwood officiating. Bearers were Brian Kingery, Mike Kingery, Tom Kingery, Kevin Kingery, Rick Kingery, Jon Maakestad, Donald Pokorney, and Rick Rowley. Interment was in the Ruckman Cemetery in rural Marion. County.

Memorial contributions may be made to Christ's Church in Knoxville.
