The community of Knoxville lost a beloved one Saturday, April 8 as Margaret Zeck passed away at the age of 78.

Zeck was a long-time contributor to the Journal-Express Newspaper as a columnist. She penned the column entitled "From the Southwest Room."

Many of Margaret Zeck's columns were from the heart. Quite often a story was told of days when she was growing up.

Ironically the column she penned for the paper was named from a room she was confined in at home since her illness.

Margaret died following a bout with lung disease. The battle was a long one, but through it all, Margaret's faith was always at an all-time high.

It was her faith in the Lord that helped her with the fight. Right up until the very end Margaret was the same sweet person I knew back in the early 80s as an employee at the newspaper office.

Margaret and I took advantage of working many late hours. After all, it was quieter in the evening and more seemed to get accomplished.

It also allowed me a chance to really get to know Margaret that much more.
It will always be remembered that Margaret Zeck had her last column in the newspaper printed Friday, April 7.

The title of her last column was "Farewell from the Southwest Room."

Margaret knew the end was in sight and she was prepared to take the next step. Death didn't scare her. She was ready to serve the Lord beyond her time here on earth.

On Thursday the day before her last column appeared, long-time Journal-Express employee, Louise Kuntz and myself took a trip to the Knoxville Area Community Hospital to visit Margaret, for what would become our last visit.

It was a visit that could have only been ordered by God and delivered in person by Margaret as though nothing was bothering her.

The memories will last forever. Margaret Zeck touched the lives of many citizens in the community. Her columns will be missed, but her memories live on.

Funeral services were held for Margaret R. Zeck Wednesday, April 12 at the Bybee & Davis Funeral Home with interment at Red Rock Cemetery.

Margaret leaves behind two daughters, Karen and Sheryl Zeck and a son from a previous marriage Robert Ransom, Jr.

Karen and Sheryl are also former employees of the Journal-Express.
