Funeral services for Wilfred Willemsen, 71, of Pella, who died on Saturday, December 9, 2000, at Pella Regional Health Center, were held on Wednesday, December 13, at Church of the Nazarene in Pella. Rev. David L. Lovell officiated at the services with Revs. G. LaVerne Hill and David W. Willemsen assisting. Rick Van Gorp was soloist. Linda Litwiller was organist.

Interment was at Oakwood Cemetery in Pella. Casket bearers were Joseph Willemsen, Douglas Van Haaften, Joshua Willemsen, Nate Van Haaften, Paul Thompson, and John Jolliffe. Honorary bearers were Henry Willemsen, Kenneth Watson, and Donald, Dwayne and Dwight Jolliffe.

Willie was born on April 13, 1929, in Pella, to William and Sarah (Miedema) Willemsen. He graduated from Pella High School in 1948.

He married Velma Lorene Jolliffe on September 2, 1949 at the Open Bible Church in Pella.

He worked at Rolscreen for nearly 22 years. He had also been employed at Pella Glass and Home Improvements and the municipal light plant for the City of Pella from which he retired. After retirement, he worked for three years as a courier for the Pella Regional Health Center.

Willie enjoyed hunting, fishing and target shooting. He also enjoyed doing yard
work, gardening and carpentry work. He was a member of the Church of the Nazarene in Pella.

Willie was preceded in death by his parents.

He is survived by his wife, Velma; two sons and a daughter-in-law, David and Kathy Willemsen of Springfield, Mo., and Joseph Willemsen of Pella; four daughters and a son-in-law, Debbie Willemson of Pella, Janie Marvelli and special friend, Dan Kajensky of Knoxville, Patty and Douglas Van Haaften of Otley, and Mary Willemsen of Pella; ten grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; a brother and sister-in-law, Henry and Freda Willemsen of Leighton; and a sister, Gertrude Watson of Long Beach, Calif.

Memorials may be made to Hospice of Pella or the Home Health Care Department of the Pella Regional Health Center.

Arrangements were made by Van Dyk-Duven Funeral Home.
