Funeral services for Leah Ann Toom, 92, of Pella, who died on Thursday, August 17, at the Long Term Care Unit of the Pella Regional Health Center, were held on Saturday, August 19, at the Chapel of the Van Dyk-Duven Funeral Home in Pella. Rev. Kevin Korver officiated at the services. Randy Toom and Gerald Verros were eulogists. Special music was sung and played by Mrs. Eileen Smiley.

Interment was at the Oakwood Cemetery. Casket bearers were Randy Toom, Todd Toom, Jim Frank, Mark Thompson, Wade Dawley and Gerald Verros.

Leah was born on May 10, 1908 in Marion County, near Durham, to Mathys and Dotje Van Beck Verros. She was the youngest of fifteen children. She attended country grade school is this vicinity and later moved to Pella with her father, after her mother's death.

Leah married Marion A. Toom on February 14, 1929 at her home in Pella. To this union, two sons were born.

Leah and her husband farmed until 1957, and then moved into Pella. After her husband passed away in 1974, Leah continued to live in Pella. She was cared for at the Long Term Care Unit of the Pella Regional Health Center for the past four years.

Leah was a member of the Third Reformed Church. She also had been a member of the Dorcas Circle and the Ladies Aid for many years.

Leah was preceded in death by her husband; a son, Melvin; her parents; all of her sisters, Elizabeth Uitermarkt, Henrietta DeJong, Nettie DeZwarte, Carrie Clark and Gertie Vogelaar; and her brothers, Teunts, Neal, William, Gerrit, Albert and David Verros; and three infant siblings.

She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Larry and Mary Toom of New Sharon; another daughter-in-law, Beverly Toom of Pella; six grandchildren; five step-grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; 12 step-great-grandchildren; eight step-great-great-grandchildren, a sister-in-law, Julia Verros of Pella; as well as many nieces and nephews.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Arrangements were made by Van Dyk-Duven Funeral Home.
