Funeral services for Grace Novella Thompson, 101, of Knoxville, who died on Tuesday, November 21, 2000, at the Knoxville Area Community Hospital, were held on Saturday, November 25, at Williams Funeral Home in Knoxville. Rev. Maurice Johnston officiated at the services. Darlene Mooberry was organist.

Interment was at Graceland Cemetery. Casket bearers were Terry, Tim, and Tom Bayse, Laurie Chambliss, Melanie Magara and Kathleen Swerisz. Honorary Casketbearers were Don Agan, Chad Bayse, Louis Erb, Lyle Harvey, Don Hunt, George Andrew, Ryan Bayse, Frank Elliott, Ralph Hedrich, Maurice Johnston and Bob Tallman.

Grace was born on November 11, 1899 in Elmo, Mo. She was the daughter of Vera L. Honaker and Charles L. Calfee. Grace grew up in the Elmo area and graduated from Elmo High School. She then attended and graduated from the Maryville State Teacher's College. After graduation she taught school in the area for five years.

She married Oliver L. Thompson on June 5, 1920. Grace and Oliver moved to Knoxville in 1923 where she lived for over 77 years. In May of 1989 Grace moved to the Tender Living Care Unit of the Knoxville Area Community Hospital where she remained the rest of her life.

Grace had been a member of the First Christian Church in Knoxville since 1926. She was also a Rebekah Lodge member for over 50 years as well as an active member in the Ladies Sunshine Circle.

She enjoyed gardening, flowers and her yard work. She also loved crocheting and cooking for her family.

Grace was preceded in death by her parents; husband; one daughter, Maxine; one grandson, Bruce Spain; two brothers and four sisters.

She is survived by her daughter, Mary L. Spain of Danville, Ill.; one son-in-law, Clyde Bayse of Humbolt; one sister, Della Moses of Elmo, Mo.; six grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren as well as other relatives and friends.

Memorials may be made to the First Christian Church of Knoxville.

Arrangements were made by Williams Funeral Home.
