Funeral Services for Marvin D. Seekamp, 42, of Pella, who died Thursday, June 15, 2000 at Pella Regional Health Center, were held Monday, June 19 at the First Reformed Church in Pella. Rev. Conley A. Zomermaand officiated at the services. Mrs. Kris Harms was pianist. Mrs. Glenda Van Woerkom was soloist.

Interment was at the Oakwood Cemetery in Pella. Casket bearers were David Boot, Earl Duinink, Bradley Rietveld, Bryce Sietstra, Marvin Terlouw and Dennis J. Van Gorp. Ushers were Leroy Blommers, Ronald Branderhorst, Sherman Kiefaber and Owen Ver Meer.

Marvin was born September 23, 1957 in Des Moines, the son of Vernon Owen and Katherine Van Der Hart Seekamp. He began his grade school education in Leighton and later moved to Pella where he continued his schooling and graduated with the Class of 1976.

Following his high school graduation, Marvin began working at Pella Supply Company. In 1978, he purchased the business from Melvin Pothoven, who eventually became his father-in-law.

He married Sharon Eileen Pothoven on Sept. 6, 1980.

He continued ownership and operation of the Pella Supply Company along with his wife, Sharon.

Marvin was a faithful member of the First Reformed Church in Pella. He was a member of the Marion Co. Pork Producers Assn.; the Marion Co. Cattlemen Assn.; the Iowa Blacksmiths and Welders Assn. and was co-chairman of the Lake Prairie Township Assn.

He enjoyed farming and woodworking and found much pleasure in sprint car and NASCAR racing.

He was preceded in death by his father, Vernon Seekamp, who just passed away on April 1, 2000; his maternal grandparents, William and Jennie Wielard Van Der Hart; and his paternal grandparents, Owen and Ruth Bowen Seekamp.

He is survived by his wife, Sharon; their two children, Wendy, age 17 and Scott, age 15, both at home; his mother, Katherine Seekamp of Pella; two brothers, Steven Seekamp of Otley and Joel Seekamp of Pella; two sisters, Gloria Butler of Ankeny and Delores Holtz of Atlantic. He also leaves his step-grandmother, Thelma (Toms) Seekamp of Norwalk, Wis. and his parents-in-law, Melvin and Leona (Vos) Pothoven of Pella.

Memorials may be designated for Youth Ministries of the First Reformed Church or a trust fund being established for Wendy and Scott Seekamp.

Arrangements were made by Van Dyk-Duven Funeral Home.
