Memorial services for Jerry L. Schrader, 69, of Melcher-Dallas, who died on Monday, December 11, 2000, at the Kavanagh House in West Des Moines, were held on Thursday, December 14, at the New Hope United Methodist Church in Melcher-Dallas. Pastor Randy Cormeny officiated at the services. Cheryl Gray was soloist.

Interment was at Tickle Cemetery near Melcher-Dallas.

Jerry was born on July 23, 1931, in rural Marion County to Clarence and Faye Roe Schrader. He was raised in the Melcher-Dallas area and graduated from Melcher High School. He served in the United States Army and was stationed in Germany from 1951 to 1953.

He married Dolores Noftsger on September 13, 1953 in Leon. He worked at Ford Motor Company in Des Moines until they closed and then worked for Firestone for twenty-five years before retiring. He then worked in Knoxville as a Ford mechanic and also at John Deere. He also drove a truck hauling mail for the Post Office.

Jerry enjoyed hunting, fishing, and playing the bass guitar. He was a champion trap shooter, and an airplane pilot. He belonged to the National Rifle Association and to the St. Paul Lutheran Church.

Jerry was preceded in death by his daughter, Brenda Baumann; and his father.

He is survived by his wife, Dolores of Melcher-Dallas; a son, Bruce of Indianola; two daughters, Teresa Fee of Des Moines and Alisa Breese of Melcher-Dallas; his mother, Faye Schrader of Milo; nine grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends.

Arrangements were made by Pierschbcher Funeral Home in Melcher-Dallas.
