Mass of Christian Burial for Harold F. Schneider, 51, of Melcher-Dallas, who died on Wednesday, August 9, 2000 at work, was held on Saturday, August 12 at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Melcher-Dallas. Father Philip Ryan of Sigourney officiated at the Mass. Kevin Konrad and the Sacred Heart Choir provided the music.

Interment was at the Bauer Cemetery with Burial Honors accorded by the American Legion. Pallbearers were Arnie Hoch, Ron Wilson, Dave Seuferer, Marvin Bingham, Mike Schneider, and Ralph Scheve.

Harold was born on April 22, 1949, in Chariton, the son of Geneva (Scheve) and Ervin Schneider. He graduated from Melcher High School in 1967.

Following his graduation, Harold was employed by Meredith Corporation in Des Moines. He took a leave of absence to serve in the United States Army at the end of the Vietnam War. Upon discharge he returned to work at Meredith Corporation, which led him to a 33 year career. He has also been involved with the family grave digging business in the local area for over 40 years. He has maintained a small farm outside of Melcher-Dallas for over 20 years.

Harold was a member of the American Legion Post, Parish Council, Marion County Pork Producers, and 4-H. He also helped maintain the Little League and Softball fields. He loved to fish and hunt.

Harold was preceded in death by his mother, Geneva; and a sister, Marge Gass.

He is survived by his wife, Debbie; two sons, Jeff and Josh; a daughter, Jenny; his father, Penny of Melcher-Dallas; a sister, Bert Warrick of Runnells; and a brother, John of Melcher-Dallas.

Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association.

Arrangements were made by Piershbacher Funeral Home in Melcher-Dallas.
