Funeral services for Fern Irene Noftsger, 91, of Knoxville, who died on Tuesday, October 24, 2000, at the Knoxville Area Community Hospital, were held on Wednesday, October 26, 2000, at Williams Funeral Home in Knoxville. Rev. Darrel Swafford officiated at the services. Music was provided by Darlene Mooberry, organist and Jim Kidder, vocalist.

Interment was at Gosport Cemetery in Marion County. Casketbearers were Richard Beaver, Bob Bingham, John Braida, Mike Leon, Gene Sacco and Jim Scarpino. Honorary casketbearers were Dale Dearinger, Elmo Mecham, Frosty Harrington and Carl Schwanebeck.

Fern was born on December 23, 1908, in Marion County, to Zina Bell Willis and Isaac Bingham. She was one of thirteen children in the family. She grew up in Marion County.

She married William Franklin Noftsger on November 17, 1928 in Knoxville. To this union two children were born. The family farmed and lived in Marion County until moving to Knoxville in the late 1970's.

Fern enjoyed gardening, cooking and spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Fern was preceded in death by her parents; an infant son, Marvin; and nine brothers and sisters.

She is survived by her husband, William Noftsger of Knoxville; a son and daughter-in-law, Gary and Barbara Noftsger of Ankeny; two grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; two sisters, Faith Bingaman of Knoxville and Dorothy Krpan of Melcher; one brother, Harold Bingham of Janesville, Wis. as well as other relatives and friends.

Memorials may be made to Hospice of Central Iowa.

Arrangements were made by Williams Funeral Home.
