Funeral services for Thomas Leo Kading, 57, of Knoxville, who died February 17, 2000 at Mercy Hospital Medical Center in Des Moines, were held February 22, 2000 at Bybee and Davis Funeral Home in Knoxville.

Rev. Fred Gee officiated at the services. Music was provided by organist Midge Brooks. Burial was at Lincoln Cemetery. Casket bearers were Gale Flanagan, Larry Flanagan, Steve Flanagan, Robert Black, Charles Kading, and Merrill Anthony.

Thomas was born on April 19, 1942 the son of Leo Kading and Ruth (Flanagan) Kading.

He was raised on the family farm, in the Fairview Community, and attended Pleasantville Schools, graduating with the Class of 1960. After high school, he attended the University of Northern Iowa and earned his B.A. in Science in 1964. He then moved to Colo and taught school, while he attended night school at U.N.I. In a couple of years Thomas earned his Master's Degree in Physics. He taught in Eddyville and Brooklyn, before moving back to the family farm to help his father. While he lived on the farm, Thomas taught school in Melcher-Dallas.

For the last 16 years he has lived in Des Moines and worked as a substitute teacher for the Des Moines Public School System. He had a passion for education, and especially enjoyed helping children with hearing disabilities.

He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Forest Flanagan and Minnie Horstmann and paternal grandparents, Charles Kading and Ellen Juline and his parents, and a brother James.

He is survived by two sisters: Shirley Kading, Des Moines, and Rose Kading, Cedar Falls.

Memorials may be made to Fairview Christian Church and the American Diabetes Association.

Arrangements were made by Bybee and Davis Funeral Home.
