Funeral services for Hazel Madonna Phillips Jones, 76, of Bussey, who died on Sunday, September 3, 2000 at the Pella Regional Health Center, were held on Wednesday, September 6 at Bybee & Davis Funeral Home in Knoxville. Pastor Samuel Subramanian officiated at the services. Patty Richards was vocalist. Donna Groenendyk was organist.

Interment was at the Bellefountaine Cemetery in Tracy. Casketbearers were grandsons, Rick, Michael, and Raymond Anderson, Roger Jones, Jason Allen, and Rob and Mark Smith.

Hazel was born on January 7, 1924 in Tracy, the daughter of Jerry and Wanda Cade Phillips. She attended Tracy schools.

She was married to Levi N. Jones on December 7, 1940 in Des Moines. To this union, five children were born.

Following their marriage, Hazel and Levi "Shorty" Jones made their home on a farm near Cedar. They returned to Tracy in 1942 and later moved to a farm 3 miles Northeast of Bussey, where they have resided for the past 51 years.

Hazel enjoyed farm life, especially gardening and working in the field. She loved animals, including her cats and dogs, and caring for her many flowers.

She was a member of Farm Bureau Women, Carmel Club, and Neighborhood Card Club.

Hazel was preceded in death by her parents; two stillborn daughters; one granddaughter, Connie Lambert; and one sister, Bonnie Phillips Jones.

She is survived by her husband, Levi N. Jones of Bussey; son, Donald W. Jones of Bussey; four daughters, Lavonna Anderson of Tracy, Dixie Smith of New Sharon, Kathy Toll of Bussey, and Darla Allen of Bussey; two sisters, Bomell Mateer of Knoxville and Norma Simons of Oskaloosa; 12 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association.

Arrangements were made by Bybee & Davis Funeral Home.
