Funeral services for Henry Hackert, 84, of Pella, who died March 8, 2000, were held March 11 at the Third Reformed Church in Pella. Reverend John Van Den Berg and Reverend Robert Schuring officiated at the services. Music was provided by organist Lena Vandenberg and vocalists Gary Cottington and Tom Vandenberg. Burial was at Oakwood Cemetery in Pella.

Casketbearers were grandsons Kevin Hackert, Kirk Hackert, Chris Hackert, Brian Hackert, Steve Wermerskirchen, and Mike DeKoning.

Henry was born on February 23, 1916 in Pella, Iowa the son of Peter and Johanna (De Wild) Hackert. Henry lived most of his life in the same home south of Pella. He lived and worked on the farm all of his life. He graduated the 8th grade from the Pleasant Grove School.

On March 5, 1940, he was united in marriage with Johanna Mae Vandenberg at the Third Reformed Church parsonage. In addition to being a life-long farmer, Henry was a rural mail carrier with the United States Postal Service for eighteen years, retiring in 1985.

He was a member of the Third Reformed Church and the Rural Letter Carriers Association.

He was preceded by his parents; two sisters; Cornelia Schakel and Wilhelmina Roorda; and a brother, Clarence Hackert.

He is survived by his wife, Johanna Hackert of Pella; two sons Larry Hackert, Pella and Dr. Marvin Hackert of Austin, Texas; one daughter Phyllis Cottington, Pella; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren.

In Lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Third Reformed Church, Home Healthcare- Pella Regional Health Center.

Arrangements were made by Garden Chapel Funeral Home in Pella.
