Private family services for Benjamin DeJoode, 83, of Knoxville, formerly of Monroe, who died on Saturday, September 9, 2000 at the V.A. Medical Center in Knoxville, were held on Monday, September 11, at Silent City Cemetery in Monroe. Rev. Charles Husted officiated at the services.

Benjamin was born on June 17, 1917 in Rotterdam, Holland, the son of Willem and Gertrude (Snetselaar) DeJoode. He came to the United States at age 1 1/2.

He was married to Evelyn Aldrich on April 12, 1947.

Benjamin lived in Knoxville for 5 years and had previously lived in the Monroe area. He was the owner of D-X service station.

Benjamin was preceded in death by his parents; wife; seven brothers and one sister.

He is survived by two sons and a daughter-in-law, Fred DeJoode of Ames and James and Becky DeJoode of Pella; two daughters and sons-in-law, Phyllis and Mike Cremeens of Monroe and Janet and Dean Shinn of Knoxville; eight grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Anthony of Knoxville and Barney of Pleasantville; and two sisters, Jeanette Bogert of Sunnyside, Wash. and Gertrude Sage of Knoxville.

Arrangements were made by Walters-Coburn Funeral Home in Monroe.
