Funeral services for Esther Hunter DeJong, 68, of Grovetown, Georgia, formerly of Knoxville, who died Sunday, June 11, 2000, at her home, were held Sunday, June 18, at First Baptist Church in Thomson, Ga. Dr. Jimmy Elder officiated at the service, with tributes from her four sons.

Interment was at Savannah Valley Memorial Gardens in Thomson, Ga.

Esther was born on September 18, 1931 in Anoka, Minn., daughter of Westley and Mildred Dickenson Hunter.

Esther was united in marriage to David P. DeJong, of Knoxville, on June 12, 1952. To this union, five children were born. The couple spent their entire lives in mission work, seventeen of those years in South Africa. They have lived and ministered in several states and countries. For several years they maintained a home in Thomson, Ga.

Esther was preceded in death by a son, Daniel; a granddaughter, Sarah; her parents; a sister; and her Father and Mother-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. P. K. DeJong, of Knoxville.

Esther is survived by her husband of 48 years and four children, Paul and his wife, Sandy of Augusta, Ga., Timothey and his wife, Lorie of Harlem, Ga., James and his wife, Kyleen of Kenya, Africa and Mark and his wife, Ruth of Bradenton, Fla.; 10 grandchildren; and a sister, Ellen Dillon of Anoka, Minn.
