Funeral services for Thomas J. "TJ" Christensen, 18, of Pella, who died Thursday, June 1, 2000, were held Monday, June 5 at 10:30 a.m. at the Sully Christian Reformed Church. Pastor Larry Howerzyl officiated at the service. Mary Fopma was pianist and organist. Special music was provided by the Pella Christian High School Choir.

Interment was at the Sully Cemetery. Casket bearers were Jon Van Hemert, Brandon Johnson, Kyle Van Arendonk, Ben Nikkel, Matt De Haan, Eric Bruxvoort, Schuyler Roozeboom, Zach Kanis, Brett De Vries and Matt Schuring.

TJ was born October 20, 1981 in Pella, the son of Gary and Lynette Sue Nikkel Christensen. He was baptized at the Sully Christian Reformed Church and was raised on a farm near Sully.

TJ was a student, and had just graduated from Pella Christian High School with many academic and athletic honors. He was a member of Youth for Christ and CRC Young People and received the Black Star Award in Cadets. He was active in basketball, soccer, track, baseball, choir, band, and Praise Team, and was a class officer at Pella Christian High. He had planned to attend Iowa State University.

He enjoyed snow boarding, rollerblading, riding motorcycles, and working on cars.

He is survived by his parents; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Rachel and Travis Deur of Wheaton, Ill. and Andrea Christensen of Sully; one brother, Jamis Christensen of Sully; and four grandparents, Junior and Joyce Christensen of Sully and Bernie and Lenora Nikkel of Pella.

Memorials may be made to Pella Christian High School or Sully Christian Grade School.

Arrangements were made by Garden Chapel Funeral Home in Pella.
