Funeral services for Andrew G. Bubon, 77 of Cedar Rapids, who died February 13, 2000, were held February 17 at Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories. Rev. Mark Meier officiated at the services. Interment was at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery.

Andy was born to John and Mary Bubon on February 22, 1922, in Rathbun, Iowa. He graduated in 1940 from Melcher High School, where he earned All-State football honors.

He attended Graceland College until the outbreak of World War II, at which time he enlisted in the Marine Corps. He served in the Pacific Theater in the Solomon Islands from 1943 to 1944. Upon his return he finished his bachelor's degree and football career at Central College in Pella, later earning his master's degree from Northeast Missouri State in 1967.

He was married to his wife, Betty, on September 17, 1946. Andy was in the teaching and coaching profession for 36 years. He taught in the Alexander School District from 1950 to 1951. From there he went to the Olin School District, 1951-1956, where he made many friends and had great memories as both a teacher and a basketball coach. From 1957 until the time of his retirement in 1986, he taught and coached at College Community Schools.

He was preceded in death by brothers John, Paul and Frank, and a sister, Tina Rodocovich.

He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Betty; a son, Dan, Cedar Rapids; a daughter Amy, Yorba Linda, California; sisters, Mae Konrad of Melcher; Katherine Greene, Ankeny; and Anne Pezzetti and Betty Wasker, both of Des Moines; and a brother Vance, of Mauston, Wisconsin; and a grandson, C.J.

A memorial fund has been established.

Arrangements were made by Cedar Memorial Funeral Home.
