Funeral services for Dorothy Louise Witt, 84, of Henderson, Nev., formerly of Columbia, who died on Monday, November 5, 2001, at the Sunrise Hospital in Las Vegas, Nev., were held on Saturday, November 10, at Columbia United Methodist Church in Columbia. Pastor Ellis Andrews officiated at the services. Music was provided by Evelyn Beebout, organist and Heather Eddleman Jamison, vocalist.

Interment was at the Columbia Cemetery. Casketbearers were Bob Bingham, Ted and Terry Eddleman, Jan Orr, Gerald W. Witt and Harlan E. Witt, Jr.

Dorothy was born on December 27, 1916, in Hardinsburg, Ind.. She was the daughter of Kittie (Davis) and Isaac Chancey Eddleman.

She married William Josiah Witt on October 16, 1937, in Oskaloosa. To this union two daughters were born.

Dorothy became a beautician in 1961 and maintained a beauty shop in her home on a full-time and part-time basis until 1975. In 1968 she graduated from the Des Moines School of Practical Nursing. She worked as a Licensed Practical Nurse at the Veteran's Administration Hospital in Knoxville until October, 1979. At that time she joined her daughters in Nevada. Upon retirement she discovered a talent as a watercolorist. She participated in the activities of the Boulder City, Nevada Art Guild, including juried art shows.

She had been an active member in the Columbia Methodist Church. She was also a member of the Henderson, Nev. chapter of the National Association of Retired Federal Employees where she served as the phone coordinator for many years. She was also an avid supporter of the University of Nevada basketball team.

Dorothy loved to garden, valiantly trying to raise "Iowa" tomatoes in the Nevada Desert. She was also a great cook.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Bill; sister, Audrey; and three brothers, Floyd, Frank and Fred Eddleman.

She is survived by two daughters, Rosemary Witt and Sue Witt, both of Henderson, Nev.; Doris Orr of Knoxville who was raised in Dorothy's maternal home; as well as other relatives and friends.

Memorials may be made to the Columbia United Methodist Church or the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.

Arrangements were made by Williams Funeral Home.
