Funeral services for Roscoe Wayne Walter, 76, of Lovilia, who died on Thursday, January 4, 2001, at the Monroe County Hospital in Albia, were held on Saturday, January 6, at the Lovilia Methodist Church. Rev. Gordon Vickery officiated at the services.

Interment was at Woodlawn Cemetery in Lovilia with military rites provided by the American Legion Howard Cessna Post #137 of Albia. Pallbearers were Todd and Steven Walters, Randy Walter, Ken Howe, Richard Clark, and Ted Visser. Honorary bearers were the grandchildren and great-grandchildren of Roscoe.

Roscoe was born on December 6, 1924, in Marysville, to Roy G. and Frances Comstock Walter. He graduated from Bussey High School and received a year of home college study. He worked for Iowa Packing in Des Moines before enlisting in the service where he served in the U.S. Army 1288th Engineer Corp. for three years during WW II, in the European Campaign, where he was involved in the Battle of the Bulge.

He married Lois Clark on October 30, 1944, at the Methodist Parsonage in Oskaloosa. He had owned and operated coal mines for 20 plus years. He later went to work for the Moorman Feed Co. of Illinois, delivering feed for three years and as a salesman for 17 years.

He was a member of the Lovilia Methodist Church and the Lovilia and Albia American Legion.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

He is survived by his wife, Lois Walter of Lovilia; three sons, Dennis Walter of Knoxville, Harry Walter of Newton, and Kevin Walter of Lovilia; a daughter, Connie Lane of Knoxville; four brothers, Jess Walter of Bussey, Duane Walter of Des Moines, Donald Walter of Cinnaminson, N.J., and David Walter of Marysville; two sisters, Goldie Kraber of Lovilia and Dorothy Pottorff of Bussey; eight grandchildren; and six great-grandsons.

Memorials may be made to the Lovilia Methodist Church or the Monroe County Park at Lake Miami.

Arrangements were made by Winfield Funeral Home in Albia.
