Waits, Glenn "Shorty"

Funeral services for Glenn "Shorty" Waits, 84, of Knoxville, who died on Saturday, September 29, 2001, were held on Tuesday, October, 2, at Williams Funeral Home. Pastor Brian Harris officiated at the services. Music was provided by John Crawford, vocalist and Jim Kidder, organist.

Interment was at Graceland Cemetery in Knoxville. Casketbearers were Glenn Borchert, Brian Clarke, Benton De Shaw, Bob Edwards, Arden Graves, Larry McVey and Wendell Winters. Military honors were provided by the American Legion Post #165 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #3519.

Glenn was born on April 2, 1917, in Marion County. He was the son of Georgia Pitt and Porter Waits.

He was a World War II Army Veteran serving in the Aluietian Islands, France, Germany, Belgium and Austria. He received an honorable discharge in 1945.

He married Bonnie Mart on February 13, 1963, in Omaha, Neb.

Glenn lived in Knoxville all of his life. He was employed at the Veterans Hospital in Knoxville for 36 years where he was an equipment and truck driver.

He was a member of the American Legion Post #168. He enjoyed gardening, working in his yard and home, and fixing up cars. When not working around the house, Glenn could be found looking for antiques and going to auctions.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Deborah Irving; a granddaughter, Emily Irving; a brother, Loren Waits; three sisters, Bernice Washburn, Beatrice Crouch and Gwendolyn Waits; and his former wife, Charlotte.

He is survived by his wife, Bonnie Waits of Knoxville; three sons and a daughter-in-law, Kevin and Edye Waits of Prairie City, Kentin Waits of Chicago, Ill. and Ronald Waits of Elbert, Colo.; a sister, Doris Mott of Knoxville; and seven grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to the Knoxville Fire and Rescue Unit.

Arrangements were made by Williams Funeral Home.
