Memorial services for John Vrban, 71, of Melcher-Dallas, who died on Friday, October 12, 2001, were held on Monday, October 15, at the Mosher Funeral Home in Melcher-Dallas. Pastor Dave Carpenter officiated at the services.

Interment was at the Dallas Cemetery. The American Legion Post #632 provided military rites.

John was born on December 27, 1929, in Knoxville. He was the son of Frank and Frances Vrban.

He spent four years in the United States Air Force. He was a gunner on a B-29 Bomber during the Korean War. He received several medals during his service time - Korean Service Medal, Bronze Service Star, UN Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Air Medal and Air Crew Member Badge. The unit that he flew with recently got together for a reunion.

John lived in the Melcher-Dallas area all his life. He was an avid outdoorsman. He loved to hunt or do anything outdoors.

He taught his children many things, and spent a lot of time with them and his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He was a member of the American Legion Post #632 of Melcher-Dallas, a member of the National Rifle Association, National Tractor Association, Wildlife Preservation and VFW.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Grace; five brothers, Vance, Joe, Steve, Matt and Tony; and a sister, Frances.

He is survived by his son, Joe of Melcher; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Jan and Dan Woodruff of Columbus, Ohio; Debbie and Rick Rollins of Bremerton, Wash. and Connie Ogden of Ventura, Calif.; a brother, Gregory Vrban of Pleasantville; a sister, Eva Hunget of Indianola; 12 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends.

Memorials may be made to the NRA or American Legion Post #632.
