FINARTY
" Death Loves a shining Mark"

Died at the home of his parents Dr. and Mrs.
J.W. FINARTY on Wednesday morning April 26 , 1905 , their son ROY.

ROY W. FINARTY was born in Dallas ,Iowa , July 11 , 1878 and at the time of his death was 26 years 9 months and 26 days old.

He was educated in the schools of Knoxville and this was his home until August 1899 , when at the age of twenty years he was offered and accepted a position as teller in the City National Bank at Lincoln , Neb., from which position he was in a short time promoted to assistant Cashier , which position he filled with remarkable success.

On the 7th day of May 1901 he was united in marriage to GERTRUDE CORNELL , the only child of Dr. and Mrs. L. P. CORNELL, of this city. The young couple to whom life , was such a beautiful prospect made their home in Lincoln.

In the early part of 1903 Roy's health began to show signs of breaking. The officials of the bank at once gave him two months leave of absence , and he came to Knoxville.
In a short time it became evident that the dreaded disease consumption was preying upon his vitals , and then began the battle that has lasted over two years, during which time he and his friends did all in their power to save him from the fate that stared him in the face.

He first went to Clayton , New Mexico and lived on a ranch, From there he went to Akron , Colorado where he spent the fall and from there he and his wife went to Texas and spent the winter. As his health still continued to fall , his father took him to El Paso , but when warm weather came he returned to Akron and from there to Wray , Colorado where he remained until two weeks ago.

The funeral service will be held today at the residence of his parents.
The Rev. LAMBERT will officiate assisted by Rev. LOVEALL. The pall bearers will be LAFE S. COLLINS , JOHN C. MYERS and SCOTT COLLINS of the Citizens National Bank ; J.J. ROBERTS and ED BUTTERFIELD of Knoxville National Bank ; and O.L. WRIGHT of the Marion County Bank , Interment in Graceland cemetery.

The father , mother and bereaved young wife have the heartfelt sympathy of the entire community.

When death lays its icy fingers on the very young , or upon our friends who are aged and infirm , who has lived the allotted time of man , we are sad , but can bow our heads and say " God's will be done " , but where the stroke falls upon aa young man, who but a few months ago was in the glory of his young manhood , one to whom life has opened in all its grandeur , beauty and possibilities, one who has just entered upon a domestic life that promises so much of joy and happiness , one who has entered upon a business life for which he was so well fitted by natural ability , one who had so many things that the world and heaven deem necessary to bring to man complete happiness and contentment on earth , when we are called upon to face the dread destroyer under such conditions , we are dumb , and can only wonder at the mysterious ways of Providence.

We shall always love to remember ROY FINARTY as the big hearted , whole souled boy who almost all his life was an intimated of our household and a friend and playmate of our children.

The big strong athletic fellow who a boy could make his mark in all the games of youth , as he did in the game of life , during his short career.

The boy who possesed the manly qualities that made it possible to make the heroic battle for the return of his health when dread disease had marked him for a victim , that made it possible for him to make light of his suffering and to face death without complaint , rather then to bring pain and agony to the hearts of those he loved so well - Surely " Death Loves a Shining Mark ". G.
