Vande Lune, Lois (Vroom) 1912-2009

Lois Elma Vroom was born on September 24, 1912, in Jasper County near Prairie City, Iowa. She was the oldest of three daughters that were born to Arthur R. and Ethel Witcomb Vroom. Lois attended the same country grade school, West Ryan No. 9, where her grandfather, father and later her sons attended. Lois graduated from the Prairie City High School in Prairie City with the Class of 1931. On February 17, 1933, she was united in marriage with Richard Gerrit Vande Lune, a son of Bert and Susie Meppelink Vande Lune, at her parent‚s home. To this union two sons were born: Lowell Ray who was born on July 14, 1936 and Loren Dale who was born on August 26, 1937. Lois loved being a wife, mother and homemaker and was an excellent cook for her busy family. In her spare time she enjoyed music and playing the piano. Lois and Richard Vande Lune farmed south of Prairie City until 1965 when they retired and moved into Prairie City. They enjoyed their retirement years together there and were longtime members of the Prairie City Christian Reformed Church. Lois was active with the J.O.Y. Ladies Aid Society. On March 14, 1995, her husband, Richard, passed away. In 1998 Lois became a resident at Hilltop North in Pella, Iowa. She was a resident there until November, 2006, when she entered the Long Term Care Unit at the Pella Regional Health Center. Lois passed away in the loving care of the Hospice of Pella Comfort House, Wednesday afternoon, February 4, 2009, at the advanced age of 96 years, 4 months and 10 days. Those left to cherish her memory are her two sons, Lowell and his wife, Lois (Struik) Vande Lune of Pella and Loren and his wife, Linda (Struik) Vande Lune of Pella and their families.

Of her original family Lois leaves her brother-in-law, Wilbur Hutchison of Apache Junction, Arizona; along with several nieces and nephews. Lois was preceded in death by her husband, Richard; her parents, Arthur and Ethel Vroom; her parents-in-law, Bert and Susie Vande Lune; her two sisters: Jean Hutchison and Norma Brubaker and her husband, Leo Brubaker; her nephew, Claire Hutchison; and a sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Herma (Vande Lune) and Bert Schuttinga and a nephew, Bernard Schuttinga. Lois became a member of the Calvary Christian Reformed Church in Pella, Iowa in 1998 where she was a member at the time of her death.

For those desiring, memorials may be designated for Hospice of Pella or the Calvary Christian Reformed Church in Pella.
