John J. Dunbar died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. B.H. Shinn, in the southwest part of town, Sunday, May 18, aged 96 years, 1 month, and 5 days.

John James Dunbar, son of Peter and Elizabeth Dunbar, was the oldest of eight children and was born April 13, 1823, in Bourbon county, Ky., and lived there until he was 9 years of age, when he moved to Brown county, Ill., with his father. He was united in marriage while living in Illinois to Rachel Perry, to which union were born two children. One son remains, Caswell Dunbar, of Colorado. The deceased came to Iowa in 1846 and settled in Liberty township, where he made his home up to last fall when he came to town to make his home with his daughter.

In 1850 the deceased was again united in marriage, this time to Nancy O. Henry of Liberty township. To them eight children were born, one son and three daughters living-J.T. Dunbar, Herschel, Sask.; Mrs. B.H. Shinn, this city; Mrs. S.E. Glenn of Hamilton; and Mrs. J.F. Chambers of Tracy. Besides his children, he is survived by one brother, Thomas of Illinois, twenty-five grandchildren, and thirty-five great-grandchildren.

Mr. Dunbar was a Christian all his life, and was a member of the Attica M.P. Church, for many years. Short services were held at the Shinn home, Monday forenoon, at 10 o'clock, conducted by Rev. J.F. Robertson. The regular services were held at the M.P. church in Attica on Monday afternoon at 1 o'clock, conducted by Rev. Teague, of Bussey. Interment was made in the Liberty cemetery.
