Marion Burt, oldest son of Alphonso and Elizabeth Burt, was born in Herkimer county, New York, July 24, 1844, and passed away in his home in Marion county, Iowa, near Newbern, May 14, 1919, aged 74 years, 9 months, and 20 days.

He was married to Maggie Bush at Mina, Chautauqua county, New York, August 10, 1867. Five Children were born to them. They are Mrs. Carrie Jones, of Lebanon, Kansas; Mrs. Florence Foster, of Purdy; and Clarence, of Newbern, and two who died in infancy, Harry and Bernice. He leaves to mourn his demise, his wife, two daughters, and one son, two brothers and three sisters, and nine grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

He came to Iowa in the spring of 1870, and has lived on the same farm east of Newbern, 49 years. He was a quiet home man, much loved, and will be sadly missed. He was a good neighbor and a good citizen. With good morals and eminent trustworthiness, he had won the appreciation of the community.

The funeral services on Friday, May 16, were conducted by Rev. E.W. Curtis at the Presbyterian church of Newbern. The interment was in Newbern Cemetery.
