Life Story of -- NOEL SHINN

Noel Dunbar Shinn, son of Benoni H. and Elizabeth Orpha (Dunbar) Shinn, was born on a farm near Odell, Neb. on Jan. 26, 1884 and died June 1, in Knoxville at the age of 75 years.

When a small lad, Noel entered public school at Corning and in 1902 he was graduated from Corning High School. In 1903 he came to Marion County, where he lived on a farm south of Attica with his parents and two sisters, Katy and Orrie. He taught school in both Adams and Marion Counties and later attended Drake University where he was graduated from the Drake School of Law in 1907.

He was united in marriage to Alice Ivey of Durham, N.Car. and to this union was born a daughter, Bonnie Jo, who is Mrs. Everett Loynachan of near Knoxville. After Alice's untimely passing, Noel returned to Durham, N. Caro. where he later married Callie Ivey, sister of Alice. To this union three children were born, Benoni E.; Joseph H.; and Noel C. Junior, all of Knoxville. Callie passed away, leaving Noel with four small children to rear and keep together.

At an early age he was converted and joined the M.E. Church at Corning. Later his membership was transferred to the Knoxville Methodist Church. Noel was a member of the Marion County Bar Association and of the Masonic Order. He served as county attorney of Marion County and as mayor of Knoxville for a number of years.

Preceding him in death were Alice, Callie, his parents, and a sister, Mrs. Earl Bailey of Bussey. Besides his immediate family, survivors are one sister, Mrs. Katy Sherwood of Knoxville, nine grand children, four nephews, one niece, and a host of friends.

Funeral services were held June 4 at the Methodist Church. Interment in Graceland Cemetery.
