Nellie H. De Geus

Services for Nellie Helen De Geus, 86, of Pella, who died June 20, 1994 at Pella Community Nursing Home, were held June 23 at First Reformed Church. Van Dyk-Duven Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Interment was in Oakwood Cemetery.

The Rev. Kenneth Dykstra officiated at the services. Music was provided by Janice Klein, organist and Fred Whalley, soloist. Pallbearers were Marvin and William Dieleman, Willis De Geus, Wilbur Newendorp, Daryl Vander Wilt and Leo Van Sant.

Mrs. De Geus was born Aug. 12, 1907 at Leighton, the daughter of Dick and Gertrude Walraven Van Haaften. She graduated from Oskaloosa High School in 1925 and for several years taught in rural schools in the Leighton and Oskaloosa areas.

On June 14, 1934, she married Marion De Geus at the home of her parents. They lived on the home farm northeast of Pella for 37 years before moving into Pella in 1971.

She was a member of First Reformed Church where she was active in the Ladies Aid, Women's Guild and various circles for many years.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

She is survived by her husband; three daughters, Marilyn De Geus, and special friend, Charles Schiele of Kansas City, Mo., Mrs. Charles (Janice) Jones of Lakewood, Colo., and Mrs. Ted (Arlene) Vander Loon of Grand Rapids, Mich.; three grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Dick (Helen) Vander Wilt of Pella and Mrs. Carpenter (Lorraine) Morkert of Des Moines; and a brother-in-law, Francis De Geus of Pella.

A memorial has been established to the Ladies Aid of the First Reformed Church.
