Rev. Glenn L. Emmert

Services for Rev. Glenn Leroy Emmert, 77, of Pella, who died Aug. 22, 1995 at Pella Community Hospital, were held August 26 at the First Baptist Church. Van Dyk-Duven Fuenral [funeral] Home was in charge of arrangements.

Interment was in Oakwood Cemetery.

Dr. Gary Smith and the Rev. Sonja Van Dusseldorp officiated at the services. Music was provided by Edith Meppelink, organist, Monise Reed, cellist, and Gary Cottington, soloist.

Pallbearers were Arlan, Daniel, Dale, Jason and Kevin Emmert, and John and Seann Reed.

Mr. Emmert was born on Feb. 6, 1918 near Windom, Minn., the son of Ralph and Esther Flisher Emmert. Following high school he attended Northwest Bible School in Minneapolis, Minn.

On June 8, 1943, he married Esther June Bixby at Fergus Falls, Minn.

He received his B.A. degree from Peru State Teacher's College in Peru, Neb. and further education at Central Baptist Seminary in Kansas City, Mo. He was ordained as an American Baptist minister on Aug. 3, 1944.

He served churches in North Dakota, Nebraska and Iowa, including Malvern, Renwick, Iowa Falls, Danville, and Confidence Baptist Church and the United Methodist Churches in Killduff, Reasnor and Mt. Zion. He retired from full time ministry in 1981, moved to Lynnville, and served as minister of visitation at the First Baptist Church in Pella. He also served interim pastorates in Dunkerton, Killduff, Reasnor and Mt. Zion and in Winner, S.D. and Tiskilwa, Ill. He retired from this service in 1990 and moved to Pella.

He was a member of the First Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Doris Hunter; and one granddaughter, Amy Emmert.

He is survived by his wife; one daughter, Mrs. John (Kathie) Reed of Madison Wis.; three sons and their wives, Arlan and Beverly of San Marino, Calif., Dan and Marilyn of Dubuque, and Dale and Cindy Brace of Alamogordo, N.M.; seven grandchildren; and one brother, Robert of Phoenix, Ariz.

A memorial has been established to the Mid-American Baptist Camps in care of Mid-American Baptist Churches, Suite 15, 2400 86th Street, Des Moines, 50322.
