James A. Dean

Services for James Alan Dean, 44, of Pella, who died May 30, 1995 at the Pella Apco Service Station, were held June 2 at the First Baptist Church. Van Dyk-Duven Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Interment was in Brooks Cemetery at Hedrick.

Dr. Gary Smith officiated at the services. Music was provided by Edith Meppelink, organist.

Pallbearers were Richard Dean, Jay and Jeff Messerschmitt, Gerald Noah, Dan Wasko, Stephen Bennett, Bob Loynachan, and Keith Sloan.

Mr. Dean was born on Feb. 4. 1951 in Ottumwa, the son of Richard Earl and Mary Gretchen Clowser Dean. He attended Lincoln Elementary and Washington Junior High School in Ottumwa and graduated from Ottumwa High School in 1969. While in high school, he was employed by Giant Foods.

On July 24, 1969, he married Nancy Ann Davis at Kirksville, Mo.

He attended Indian Hills Community College for a short time. In 1970, they moved to Pella where he became the manager of the Pella Apco Service Station, which later became the James A. Dean Corporation. He continued working there until the time of his death.

He was affiliated with the First Baptist Church in Pella and had been an active member of the Pella Jaycees in the late 1970s.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

He is survived by his wife Nancy; two daughters, Mrs. James A. (Cara Sue) Miedema and Renee Ann Dean and her fiance, Michael Roozeboom, all of Pella; one brother, Tim of Ottumwa; a special uncle and two aunts, Frank And Dorothy Little and Winifred Messerschmitt, of Ottumwa; and his in-laws, Garold and Barbara Guthrie Davis of Ottumwa.

A memorial has been established to the American Diabetes Association.
