Andreas, Vera Irene (Yates) 1915-2007

Vera Irene Yates was born on December 4, 1915, at Bertram, Iowa. Vera grew up near Lisbon, Iowa where she graduated from high school. Subsequently she received a Home Economics Degree from Cornell College at Mt. Vernon, Iowa.

On June 23, 1937, she was united in marriage with Glenn Allen Andreas at Cedar Rapids, Iowa. They were blessed with three sons: Reuben Peter, Glenn Allen Jr., and Michael Stephen.

The family moved to Pella, Iowa in 1949 where the family joined the Christian Reformed Church and the sons attended the Pella Christian School system. Glenn's greatest work was for the cause of Christian higher education. Glenn owned and served as the Chairman of the Board of the Pella National Bank in Pella until 1965. Following this position, he assumed the responsibility of handling the private investments of the Andreas family.

Vera was the primary person in establishing the Pella Community Hospital Auxiliary in Pella where she actively participated in volunteering for the auxiliary. She was an "avid" collector. She enjoyed attending garage sales and the bargains she found and was interested in antiques and doll collecting. She made dozens of quilts and enjoyed reading.

Vera was able to stay in her home until July 21, 2007, after being cared for 6 years by her eldest son, Pete. On Monday morning, September 3, 2007, she passed away at the Hospice of Pella Comfort House following a brief stay at the age of 91 years days.

Vera is survived by her three sons and their wives and seven grandchildren: Her family has grown to include seven great-grandchildren.

Vera was preceded in death by her husband, Glenn A. Andreas, who passed away November 5, 1993; a grandson, David Andreas; her parents, Joseph and Ada Norton Yates; her brother, James Yates; and her two sisters: Evelyn Busenbark and Dorothy Doran.

Vera was a member of the Second Christian Reformed Church in Pella. She loved her family and friends and appreciated the simple things in life.
