William Thomas Dethrow was born on April 24, 1941, in Chester, Ill., the son of Jewell Dethrow and Helen (Buckman) Dethrow.

Tom was raised in Des Moines. Following school, he entered the United States Navy. He served four years and following his honorable discharge, Tom returned to Des Moines. Tom lived in Des Moines and Knoxville and worked as a siding applicator and later at Maytag. On Dec. 21, 1968, he married Tanya DeZwarte in Knoxville. He has driven and owned a semi for many years, working for Geetings, Inc of Pella and Foodliner.

Tom enjoyed watching NASCAR and played guitar in a country band. He also had a sidekick, his loyal dog, Max. Tom's greatest joy was his family; he was a proud grandpa and loved family cookouts and holiday celebrations.

Tom passed away on Thursday, Oct. 11, 2007, at his home at the age of 66.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his in-laws, Evelyn and Burdette DeZwarte and two sisters, Mary Brown and JoKay Dethrow.

Those left to honor his memory include his wife, Tanya; daughter, Marnie Dethrow and his son, Kenton and wife Angie and seven grandchildren all of Knoxville; two brothers, J.R. Dethrow of Mingo and John Dethrow of Nevada; three brothers-in-law, Ronald (Kate) DeZwarte of Hamilton and Rodney (Glenna) DeZwarte, and Kenton (Pam) both of Knoxville.

For those desiring, memorials may be made to the Marion County Humane Society. Private family services will be held at a later date. Bybee and Davis Funeral Home of Knoxville is handling arrangements.
