Frances Elizabeth Courtney was born on Oct. 12, 1919, near Pleasantville in rural Marion County. She was one of six children born to Ada Metcalf and Walter Courtney. Frances grew up in the Pleasantville area. She graduated from Pleasantville High School in 1938.

On April 26, 1946, Frances Elizabeth Courtney was united in marriage to Andrew DeJoode. To this union one son was born.

Frances was a long time member of the Knoxville Church of the Nazarene. Frances and Andrew enjoyed taking bus trips. They traveled all over the United States and Canada. hen able, Frances enjoyed growing roses especially red and pink ones. Family was the major priority in Frances's life. Spending time with family and friends was her favorite pass time.

Frances Elizabeth DeJoode passed away on Thursday, Oct. 11, 2007, at Westridge Nursing and Rehabilitation Center at the age of 87.

Preceding her in death were her parents, husband and four brothers.

Those left to mourn her passing are one son and his wife, Ted and Cynthia DeJoode of Knoxville; six grandchildren, Tim DeJoode and Andrew DeJoode of Mountain Home, Ark., Christopher DeJoode of Topeka, Kan., Wayne Baker of Des Moines, Rachel Baker of Ottumwa and Nicholas Kendall and his wife, Jessica of Albia; four great-grandchildren and one sister, Gladys Perkins and her husband, Don of Des Moines.
