C. Ilene DeHeer was born on Oct. 24, 1931, in Buxton. She was one of five children born to Sylvia Erma Smith and Archie Mick Little. Ilene grew up and attended schools in Marion County. Ilene married Billy Roscoe DeHeer on Feb. 23, 2000.

Ilene worked for over 30 years for Pella Manufacturing Co. For most of those years Ilene was the manager. Ilene always stayed active. She was a member of the Knoxville Order of Eastern Star, Bussey American Legion Auxiliary and the Knoxville VFW Auxiliary.

Ilene was a very active woman. Besides raising seven children, Ilene loved to sew. She made clothing for the kids as they grew up. Later she made quilts. Recently Ilene learned to use an embroidery machine, which she thoroughly enjoyed. Ilene also baked and decorated many wedding cakes through the years. Ilene was always busy working on something. In later years she did a great deal of volunteer especially for veterans.

Ilene DeHeer passed away on Oct. 6, 2007, at the Knoxville Area Community Hospital at the age of 75.

Preceding her in death were her parents, one daughter, Gloria Ann Six.

Survivors include her husband, Billy DeHeer of Knoxville; 10 children, Tom and Connie Johnson of Bussey, Jerry and Arla Johnson of Baxter, Chris and Dave Moody of Bentonville, Ark., Chris Binns of Knoxville, Rodney and Denise Kendall of Moore Park, Calif., Teddy Johnson of Newton, Frank and Robin DeHeer of Knoxville, Vint and Margie DeHeer of Knoxville, Stan DeHeer of Knoxville and Jo and Earl Beal of Harvey; 32 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

Memorial services will be held on Oct. 13 at the Knoxville VFW, 413 S. Lincoln St., Knoxville at 1:00 p.m. Mrs. DeHeer has been donated to Des Moines University for scientific research and teaching purposes.
