Dorothy May Slycord was born on Oct. 12, 1925, near Gosport in Marion County. She was one of 10 children born to Iva Grace Fortune and John J. Hall. Dorothy grew up and attended school in Gosport.

On Feb. 20, 1944, Dorothy married Cornie Slycord in Unionville, Mo.

Cornie and Dorothy worked together on a variety of farms and raised their family for many years. They managed the Marion County Park for 18 years. Dorothy also worked as a waitress at the Maple Buffet and Pinky's and as a matron at Knoxville High School.

The family fondly recalls the Sunday suppers with family and friends present. Dorothy was an adventurous soul who had lots of fun. The last seven years were spent at assisted living, "Park Lane Village." Dorothy enjoyed the companionship of the other residents and especially playing bingo.
