Sharp, Harry Wayne 1918-2007

Harry Wayne Sharp was born on Oct. 3, 1918, in Red Rock to Lenington Nathanial Sharp and Mary Adell (Roff) Sharp.

He attended country school and then went to work as a mechanic at the Ford Garage. Harry married Muriel Jane VanderLinden on May 31, 1939, in Unionville, Mo. To this union five sons were born. Harry eventually went to work for Maytag in 1951, and retired in 1981. For 18 years, he and Muriel wintered in Arizona and Texas.

In his spare time, Harry enjoyed making birdhouses, quilting and webbing chairs.

Harry passed away on July 1, 2007, at the West Ridge Nursing and Rehab Center at the age of 88.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Muriel; son, Johnnie and his siblings, Vernon, Ivan, Walter, Delmar, Goldie, Bessie and Rachel.

Survivors include his sons, Jerry Sharp of Knoxville, Don (Kathy) Sharp of Des Moines, Rick (Donna) Sharp of Eldridgeand Ted (Judy) Sharp of Knoxville; 14 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; one great great-grandchild; a sister, Ada Wilson of California and many other family members and friends.

A memorial service was held on July 7 at Bybee and Davis Funeral Home with Swann Juline officiating. Interment was in Graceland Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to the Bessie Spaur Butterfly Garden or to Hospice of Central Iowa.
