Ethel Marline (Koonce) Loomis was born in Slater on Nov. 26, 1924. She was one of ten children born to Florence Elnor Jury and John Clement Harvey. Ethel grew up and attended school in Knoxville.

Ethel worked as a cook at the Marion County Care Facility and the VA Medical Center for several years. She not only cooked as an occupation but also enjoyed making various baked goods for friends and family.

Ethel loved to listen to country music. She knew artists' names and their songs. One of the highlights of her traveling was attending the Grand Old Opry in Nashville, Tenn. with a backstage pass. Ethel enjoyed doing things with her family. She frequently traveled with her sisters or children to Las Vegas, California or Virginia to visit other relatives or just for fun.

Ethel passed away on June 12, 2007, at the Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines at the age of 82

She was preceded in death by her parents, four brothers, five sisters and one grandchild.

Survivors include four children, Jerry (Charlene) Koonce of Seminole, Fla., Rex Gene (Beckie) Koonce of Indianola, Judy (Ed) Hines of Springfield, Mo. and John (Judy) Koonce of Charlotte, N.C.; 12 grandchildren and 29 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held on June 15 at Williams Funeral Home in Knoxville with Pastor Terry Banker officiating. Interment was in Graceland Cemetery in Knoxville.
