Lindly, Gerta I. (Dixon) 1911-2007

Gerta I. Lindly was born on Aug. 14, 1911, in Green City, Mo., to Charles and Dollia Green Dixon. At the age of seven, she moved with her parents to Bussey where she graduated from high school in 1930.

She married Charles Lindly in 1930 and to this union five children were born. In addition to being a mother and homemaker, Gerta retired in 1973 as a supervisor in the dietetic department of the VA Medical Center in Knoxville.

She enjoyed needlework and reading. She continued to maintain her own home before moving to the nursing home in 2002.

Gerta passed away on April 16, 2007, at West Ridge Nursing and Rehab Center at the age of 95.

Funeral services were held on April 20 at Evans-McCleery Funeral Home with Reverend W. Merlin Nelson officiating.

Interment was in Graceland Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to the Westridge Nursing Home Activity Fund.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one infant son; one daughter, Karen Throckmorton and one sister, Fern Ogden.

She is survived by two daughters, Bonnetta Constant and Doris Crook both of Knoxville; one son, Donald (Darlene) of Monroe; 13 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; two great great-grandchildren; many step grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great great-grandchildren and many other relatives and friends.
