Kingrey, Leo Dale 1931-2007

Leo Dale Kingrey was born on Jan. 4, 1931, in Percy. He was one of ten children born to Ruthie Sanders and Charles Aaron Kingrey. In 1950 Leo entered the United States Navy. He served four years in the Sea Bees construction battalion; stationed in Guam. Leo married Leta May Gullion on Jan. 4, 1952. To this union two children were born.

Leo worked for over 40 years at McCorkle Hardware in Columbia. Even after his retirement, he continued to work there. Leo was a jack of all trades. He could also operate most machinery and repair them as well. In his younger years, Leo enjoyed coon hunting and sold the pelts. For the last 16 years, Leo and Leta wintered in Mission, Texas. In later years Leo and Leta loved to square dance. They frequently attended country music festivals to dance and just listen to the music.

Leo Dale Kingrey passed away on April 18, 2007, at the age of 76.

Preceding Leo in death were his parents, Charlie and Ruth Kingrey; one sister, Charlene Hulgan and two grandchildren, Louis Kline III and Lisa Kline.

Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Leta Kingrey of Columbia; one daughter and her husband, Ruth and Louis Kline II of Chariton; one son and his wife, Michael and Donna Kingrey of Knoxville; four grandchildren, two brothers, Jack Kingrey and his wife, Blanche of Knoxville and Alvin Kingrey of Ankeny; four sisters, Marcella Kain and her husband, Cloman of Runnells, Mina Roberts and her husband, Carl of Melcher, Clinna Rae Culbertson and Sharon Weldon of Knoxville and many other relatives and friends.
