Chester Terpstra

PEORIA - Chester Terpstra, 60, of Peoria, a lifelong resident of the Peoria, Pella and Oskaloosa areas, died Saturday, April 20, at the Pella Community Hospital.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Peoria Christian Reformed Church.

The Rev. Ronald Bouwkamp, pastor of the church, will conduct services. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery in Pella.

Family visitation will be held from 7 to 8:30 p.m. today at the Pella Garden Chapel Funeral Home.

Memorials to the Bethany Church or the Peoria Christian School may be left at the funeral home.

Survivors are his wife, Wilma; a son, Leon of Pella; two daughters, Sheryl (Mrs. Craig) Elsboo of Pella and Sandra (Mrs. Coy) Veenstra of Pella; a grandchild; his father, Frank Sr. of Leighton; six sisters, Francis Ferguson of Oskaloosa, Florence Vander Meiden of Pella, Jean Hinrichs of Ankeny, Harriet Bennick of Ottumwa, Carolyn Clark of Eddyville and Gloria Van Kooten of Oskaloosa; and two brothers, Frank Jr. of Leighton and David of Molina, Colo.

He was preceded in death by his mother and a brother, Edward.

Mr. Terpstra, a farmer for 45 years and a Peoria Christian School bus driver, served in Korea during the Korean Conflict.

He was a member of the Peoria Christian Reformed Church, was a leader of the church's Senior Men's Society and was a 4-H leader.

The son of Frank and Pearle Memmelaar Terpstra Sr., he was born Aug. 28, 1930 in rural Mahaska County.

He was a 1948 graduate of Oskaloosa Community High School.

He was married to Wilma Maxine Dieleman April 5, 1957 in Pella. ~ The Newton (IA) Daily News, April 1991
