John Edward Heiniger was born on March 1, 1936, in Burlington to Joseph and Maye Grimes Heiniger.

He was raised in the Oakville area where he attended school and helped his family with farming until joining the Air Force in 1954. Following an honorable medical discharge, he moved to Knoxville with his wife and son. He began a car detailing business that was very well known in the community.

He enjoyed photography and flying "space available" with the Air Force. He was also a member of Celebrate Church.

John passed away on Nov. 11, 2006, at the VA Medical Center in Des Moines after suffering a stroke on Nov. 9 at the age of 70.

He was preceded in death by his father in 1976 and one sister, Lois Gray in 1998.

John is survived by his wife, Dorothy of Knoxville; one son, John (DaAnn) Heiniger of Des Moines; one daughter, Kathy Hopp (Mike) of Knoxville; his mother Maye Heiniger; one brother, Richard (Sandy) Heiniger; one sister, Joan Gerst (John) all of Burlington; three grandchildren and many other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held on Nov. 15 at Celebrate Community Church with Pastor Gary Roozeboom officiating. Cremation followed the service.

Memorials may be made to Celebrate Community Church.

Evans-McCleery Funeral Home handled the arrangements.
