Harry Cornelius Van Wyk, son of Lambert and Bertha (Vos) Van Wyk, was born on July 24, 1921, on the family farm southwest of New Sharon, Iowa. He passed away at the New Sharon Nursing and Rehab Center in New Sharon on Tuesday, July 25, 2006, at the age of eighty-five years.

Harry received his grade school education at the Garden Hall Country School southwest of New Sharon.

On February 26, 1948, Harry was united in marriage with Cathryn Pothoven at the Peoria Christian Reformed Church. To this union five children were born: Rodney, Leo, Dennis, Arlys, and Luann.

The family farmed northwest of New Sharon for fifty-eight years, where in early years he used horses to work in the fields. As his hobby after retirement he bought a team of ponies. He loved giving the grandchildren rides in a wagon pulled by his ponies.

Harry was a member of the Peoria Christian Reformed Church his entire lifetime. He professed his faith at an early age. He served several terms on the church council as elder and deacon. He also served several terms on Peoria Christian School Board. Serving the Lord was a very important part of his life. He loved his wife, children, and grandchildren very much.

Those left to honor his memory are: his wife, Cathryn; three sons and their wives: Rodney and Janice Van Wyk of Manly, Iowa, Leo and Mary Van Wyk of Iowa Falls, Iowa, Dennis and Donna Van Wyk of New Sharon, Iowa; two daughters and their husbands: Arlys and Leon Van Kooten of Oskaloosa, and Luann and Rick Boggess of New Sharon, Iowa; fifteen grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and three sisters: Nellie Vander Molen, Gret Veenstra, and Ila Ozinga all of Pella.

Preceding him in death were his parents; two brothers: John and Lester Van Wyk; and one sister: Wilma Bokhoven.

Memorial have been established for Peoria Christian Schoool and Back To God Hour.
