Margaret Norene Mallory was born on May 21, 1922, on her grandfather's farm near Bussey.

She was the seventh of eight children born to Flora Estol Cornell and Lester Spaur. Norene attended country school near Bussey. She graduated from Attica High School in 1939. While in high school, Norene played basketball for four years. She was on the State Championship team for two of those years. Norene started attending the Attica United Methodist Church as a young girl and continued until 1991 when she and Dale left the farm and moved to Knoxville.

Margaret Norene Spaur was united in marriage to Dale Wilbert Mallory on Nov. 10, 1940, in Unionville, Mo. To this union three children were born. Dale and Norene farmed and worked various jobs during the depression. Through much hard work, they were able to buy a farm south of Attica and make their home there for many years. Norene worked at Spurgeons., J.C. Penneys and the Knoxville Greenhouse as well as at the Marion County Assessors Office.

Norene was a good cook. Her family fondly remembers her egg noodles and special chocolate pie. Norene enjoyed traveling. She and Dale visited all 50 states as well as taking several trips overseas. She spent much of her free time during the summer in the garden and especially enjoyed her flowers. Norene was a member of the Attica United Methodist Church. She also attended the Attica Senior Citizens.

Margaret Norene Mallory passed away on Sept. 9, 2006, at the Presbyterian Home in Roseville, Minn. at the age of 84.

Preceding her in death were her parents, husband, Dale in 2003 and son, Ronnie in 1990; two sisters and five brothers.

Survivors include one daughter, Margaret Sande and her husband, Steve of Minneapolis, Minn.; one son, Paul Mallory and his wife, Kathy of St.Paul, Minn.; one daughter-in-law, Dorothy Mallory of Bussey; 12 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

A Celebration of Life was held for Margaret Norene Mallory on Sept. 16 at Williams Funeral Home with Pastor Steven Bagby officiating. Interment was in the Gullion Cemetery near Attica.

Memorials in memory of Mrs. Mallory may be given to the Attica United Methodist Church.
