Hartz, Ivan 1920-2006

Funeral services for Ivan Hartz, formerly of Melcher-Dallas, 85, were held on March 15, 2006, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Knoxville. Interment was in the St. Paul Cemetery in rural Lacona.

Memorials may be directed to Hospice of Central Iowa.

Ivan was proud to have served his country in the United States Army during World War II in Germany. He continued to be involved with former veterans as he worked at the Veterans Hospital as a janitor for 20 years. Ivan grew up during the depression on a farm. He could fix about anything and spent a lot of time just tinkering around and especially loved to mechanic. He loved camping, gardening and to learn history.

Ivan was born on Dec. 22, 1920, in rural Lacona to Ernest and Dora (Langebartels) Hartz. He was united in holy marriage to Marvelyn Dalene Booth on July 11, 1948, at St. Paul Lutheran Church of Germantown (rural Lacona) in Marion County. God blessed this union with four beloved children: Steve, Kenneth, Nancy and Brian.

Ivan is survived by his children, Steve Hartz (Janet) of Newton, Ken Hartz of Roanoke Rapids, NC., Nancy Schurman (Frank) of Lacona and Brian Hartz (Beth) of Menomonie, Wis.; 12 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren; siblings, Frieda Schrader of Indianola, Earl Hartz of Tucson, Ariz. and Virgil Hartz of Newton.
