William "Bill" Robert Fleming was born Sept. 13, 1938, in Waterloo. He was one of three children born to Ethel Lucille Miller and James Wesley Fleming, Sr. Bill graduated from the La Porte Consolidated Schools. He received his BS Degree in agriculture from Iowa State University in 1961.

After graduation, Bill used his agricultural training by traveling throughout Iowa as an artificial inseminator. Bill entered the Navy on Sept. 25, 1962. After his service, Bill returned home to work on the family farm. Bill continued to work on the farm for 21 years.

Bill was a member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church in La Porte City, where he was baptized and confirmed. He was also a member of the K. P. Lodge in La Porte City.

William "Bill" Robert Fleming died Monday, June 26, in Knoxville at the age of 67.

Those family members preceding him in death were his parents and one brother, James Wesley Fleming, Jr.

He is survived by one sister, Ann Spelvos of Antelope, Calif.; one sister-in-law, Virginia Fleming of La Habra, Calif., and eight nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held Thursday, June 29, in Knoxville with Chaplain Robert Arnold officiating. Interment was in West View Cemetery in La Porte City, with Rev. Don Bogue officiating.

Memorials may be made in his name to the Knoxville Public Library.
