Doris Jean Davis was born on Jan. 2, 1923, in Dean to Fred A. and Lossie (Cooksey) Stober.

Doris lived on her family's farm until the age of 13 when she moved to town to attend high school. She lived in a rooming house and worked at a café while attending school.

On Aug. 14, 1942, she married Francis Gale Davis in Lancaster, Mo. The couple lived in Moberly, Mo. for a short time before moving to Albia in 1945. They lived in Albia for 10 years, and in 1955 they moved to Knoxville.

Doris worked in the kitchen for the Knoxville School District for over 21 years, retiring on Jan. 3, 1983.

She was a member of the First United Methodist Church. Doris enjoyed cooking, camping and was an avid reader. In her younger days she liked to dance with her friends. Most of all, Doris loved every minute she spent with her family.

Doris passed away on Sept. 1, 2006, at the Knoxville Area Community Hospital at the age of 83.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her brothers, Donald and Max Stober.

Survivors include her husband, Francis; a son, Keith (Virginia) of Rochester, Minn.; a daughter, Kayla of Knoxville and three grandchildren.
Funeral services were held on Sept. 5 at the First United Methodist Church with Rev. Neil Montz officiating. Interment was in Graceland Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to Hospice of Central Iowa or to an organization of the donor's choice.

Bybee and Davis Funeral Home handled the arrangements.
