Worthington, Eddie Lawrence 1936-2006

Eddie Lawrence Worthington was born on Feb. 6, 1936, in Pershing. He was one of nine children born to Opal Mae Sparks and Roy Liborn Worthington. Eddie grew up in the Pershing area and attended school in Attica. He served in the US Navy on the USS Monssen and the USS Sturtevant.

Eddie Lawrence Worthington married Roberta Lou Simmons in 1958.

Eddie was a tool and die maker for many years. He was a member of the Teamsters Union. Eddie enjoyed reading Westerns and country music. He was known for his great tomato gardens. There were always enough tomatoes to eat, can and share with family and friends.

Eddie Lawrence Worthington died on May 2, 2006, at the Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines at the age of 70.

Preceding him in death were his parents; one daughter, Cindy; four brothers, James, Roy, Ernest and Carl Worthington and one sister, Alice Meidema.

Survivors include his wife of 47 years, Roberta Worthington of Des Moines; three sons, Jerry Behrens and his wife, Zoe of Norwalk, Eddie Christopher Worthington and Bobby Joe Worthington of Des Moines; one daughter, Teresa Eads and her husband, Kenny of Des Moines; 10 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; two brothers, Clifford Worthington of Milo and Ted Worthington and his wife, Sharon of Des Moines and one sister, Verna Umble and her husband, Bill of Pella.

Funeral services were held on May 5 with President Dan Bartlett officiating. Interment was in Graceland Cemetery in Knoxville.
