Galen Shounkwiler died at the age of 60 on May 18, 2006, at the VA Hospital in Knoxville.

Services for Galen were held on May 20 at Pierschbacher Funeral Home in Chariton. Memorials contributions may be made to Pierschbacher Funeral Home in memory Galen Shounkwiler.

Galen Paul was born in Lacona on Dec. 1, 1945, to George Henry and Dorothy Irene (Richards) Shounkwiler. Galen was proud to have served his country in the Air Force from October 1971 to October 1975.

Galen enjoyed the several years he spent auctioneering in the Des Moines area. He appreciated the sound of music as well as playing the guitar. Galen was a man full of fun and loved to tell jokes.

Galen is survived by his siblings, Ruth Welch of Knoxville, Larry Shounkwiler of Indianola, Glenn (Beverly) Shounkwiler of Chariton and Sandra Roberts of Chariton; a sister-in-law, Angela Shounkwiler of Arizona; and many nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents; brother, Keith Shounkwiler and a sister-in-law, Karen Shounkwiler.
