Lester Plate, the son of Gerrit and Sallie Burggraaf Plate, was born Sunday, January 13, 1924 at Melcher, Iowa. On March 4, 1957, he was married to Grace B. Rempe at Oskaloosa, and she died July 17, 1998. Together they farmed near Rose Hill for many years. At an early age, Lester made his profession of faith, and he was a longtime member of the First Christian Reformed Church in Oskaloosa.
On Sunday, August 9, 1998, Lester died at the Mahaska County Hospital in Oskaloosa at the age of 81 years, 5 months, and 5 days.
He is survived by a daughter and her husband: Marie and Richard Robbins of Rose Hill; a grandson: Jay Robbins; 2 step grandchildren: Christy Wood (and Dennis Utterback) and Wade (and Kim) Robbins; a step great grandson: Drew Robbins; a brother and his wife: Paul and Velda Plate of Oskaloosa; and a sister in law: Lorena Plate of Oskaloosa.
Besides his wife, Lester was preceded in death by his parents; 2 sisters: Gertie Plate and Jennie Den Hartog; and 5 brothers: Evert, Herman, Carl, Albert, and Walter Plate.
Funeral service for Lester L. Plate was held in First Christian Reformed Church in Oskaloosa, Iowa on Wednesday, August 12, 1998 at 1 p.m. with the Reverend Robert Timmer officiating. Interment was held at Evergreen Cemetery in Leighton, Iowa. (from funeral card)
