MARTINSBURG, W.V. - Herb G. Cubit, 82, formerly of Oskaloosa, died Saturday, May 6, at his home in Martinsburg, W. Va. His remains have been cremated. Interment will be held at a later date at Bluff Creek Cemetery. Memorials: Mahaska County Hospice. Brown Funeral Home of Martinsburg, W. Va., is in charge of arrangements.
Herb Cubit was born July 19, 1917, in Laconta, to Andrew and Nellie Kennedy Cubit. He was married to JoAnn Bouman Cubit. They would have celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary in June. He was employed by Boeing Aircraft Co. during World War II in Seattle, Wash. After the war, he returned with his family to the Oskaloosa area and was engaged in farming until his retirement in 1976. He was a member of First Christian Chruch in Oskaloosa and in Conway, Ark. In his retirement he was active with Habitat for Humanity and several other charitable organizations in Arkansas.
He is survived by his wife; two children and spouses: Donna Cubit-Swoyer and Le Swoyer of Freeport, N.J., and Dewey and Julia Cubit of New Market, Md.; a grandson; three sisters and two brothers-in-law: Beulah Peterson of Oskaloosa, Helen and Jake Goemaat of New Sharon, and Norma and Les Snyder of Oskaloosa; three brothers and sisters-in-law: John and Regina Cubit of New Sharon, Walter and Mary Lou Cubit of Oskaloosa, and Andrew and Shirley Cubit of Oelwein; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Wilda Wharton; and a brother, Vern Cubit.
