ROSE HILL - Shirley A. Scholtus, 63, of Rose Hill, died Friday, June 9, at Mahaska County Hospital in Oskaloosa. Her funeral service was held this morning at Bates Funeral Chapel in Oskaloosa, the Rev. John DeBoef officiating. Burial: Hopewell Cemetery north of Rose Hill. Memorials: to the family.
Shirley A. Scholtus was born Dec. 22, 1936, in Iowa City, to Emmitt and Venita Rose Lundy. She attended White Oak Country School, then attended Rose Hill High School. On April 28, 1955, she married Donald Scholtus at Central United Methodist Church in Oskaloosa. She had worked at Big Smith Overall Factory, as a nurse's aide at Tower Park Nursing Home, as a cook at Platime Supper Club, Elk's Lodge and Rose Hill Cafe as well as other restaurants in Oskaloosa. She was a member of Pythian Sisters in Rose Hill, and attended Rose Hill Community Church.
She is survived by her husband, Donald Scholtus of Rose Hill; four daughters and two sons-in-law: Debra and Lynn Johnson of Eddyville, Barbara Scholtus of Rose Hill, Beverly and Frank Montgomery of Rose Hill, and Shelly Sheely of Oskaloosa; five grandchildren, including Matthew Montgomery, whom they are raising; nine great-grandchildren; a brother and sister-in-law: Kenneth and Linda Lundy of Riverside; and two sisters and a brother-in-law: JoAnn McBride of What Cheer, and Maureen and Hersh Casey of Mission, Kan.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a granddaughter, Heather Marie Montgomery; and a brother, Calvin Lundy.
