Don Allgood (1920-2001)

Donald Allgood, the son of Charles A. and Minnie Mae Wymore Allgood, was born on Friday, August 13, 1920, at Oskaloosa. He graduated from the Lacey High School with the class of 1938. On July 27, 1941, he was united in marriage to Lois A. Cox at Oskaloosa. He farmed in the New Sharon area, then bought a farm near Barnes City in 1954 to farm. He was active in local politics, and in 1960, Don was first elected to the Maahska County Board of Supervisors, and continued on the board through reelections for 23 years. Through the years, he served on many boards and organizations, and was an organizing officer of the National Farmers Organization (NFO), and had served on the board of the Southern Iowa Fair for 12 years, and was a member of the New Sharon United Methodist Church, and a past member of the Lions and Masons. In later years, Don raised and sold registered paint horses.
On Thursday morning, July 12, 2001, Don died at the Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines, at the age of 80 years, 10 months, and 29 days.
He is survived by his wife, Lois of New Sharon; a daughter and her husband: Pat (& Curt) Hite of Pella; a son and his wife: Dennis (& Kathy) Allgood of Eugene, Oregon; and five grandchildren: Denise and Clint (& Natalie) Hite; Sarah (& Jason) Walsh, and Emily and Jennifer Allgood.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Services were held in the New Sharon United Methodist Church in New Sharon, Iowa on Saturday, July 14, 2001, at 1:30 p.m. by Reverend Kein Glesener. Interment at Friends Cemetery in New Sharon, Iowa. This is a Bates Funeral Chapel service. (From Don's funeral card).
